Geography

1a,b,c) Where is the country located? How large is the country? How large compared to the U.S? What is the Terrain like?
Japan is located in the northeastern part of Asia, and is a cluster of islands located in between the North Pacific Ocean to the east, the Sea of Japan to the west, and the East China Sea located just to the southeast of the islands. North Korea and South Korea are also southeast of Japan. The Korean Peninsula is west of Japan.  The size of this country is roughly the size of California. It is just slightly smaller when you place California next to it on the map. The total area is 377,915 square kilometers, while California is 423,970 square kilometers. Terrain for Japan is fairly rugged with lots of mountains and cliffs. In fact, Mouth Fuji is the highest point in Japan at 3,776 m. According to Countries Quest, Japan's longest flowing river is called the Shinano, and flows for almost 230 miles to the Sea of Japan. There are other notable rivers brought up, like the Tone Riverm Kanto Plain, and the Ishikari River.
